With professor Li Xiao as the chief expert, the major project of NSSFC on promoting the internationalization of RMB in the implementation of 'The Belt and Road', was approved in July 2015 and successfully completed in January 2020. The sub-project was led by Zhang Ming, researcher of institute of world economy and politics, Chinese academy of social sciences, Zong Liang, chief economist of institute of international finance, bank of China, Professor Ding Yibing, professor Li Junjiu and Professor Yu Zhen from Economics School of Jilin University.
In the five-year research, the research group published 26 CSSCI papers, 1 SSCI paper, 1 work, 3 consulting reports approved, 1 achievement adopted by the national philosophy and Social Sciences Planning Office, and 3 international research reports (respectively to Pakistan, Laos and London, UK).Among them, three consulting reports have been approved by provincial or ministerial leaders and adopted by relevant departments.
There are several characteristics and innovations in this project. First of all, combine 'The Belt and Road' with the two foreign economic initiatives of RMB internationalization as a whole. Secondly, firmly grasp the new topic of 'The Belt and Road' construction and discuss the new direction and approach of RMB internationalization under the background of 'The Belt and Road' construction. Thirdly, in terms of methods, the research methods of international economics and international political economy are fully combined, and the multi-dimensional characteristics of the 'The Belt and Road' initiative itself are combined to carry out research on the subject from different perspectives, so as to get a more comprehensive research conclusion. Forth, fully aware of the difficulties and risks faced by the construction of 'The Belt and Road' to promote the internationalization of RMB and have an objective and rational discussion on it.
The academic viewpoints put forward by the research group have great influence field and the academic papers published have been widely cited by scholars in this research. Among them, 2 academic papers were reprinted bySocial Science Digest, and 1 academic paper won the first prize of the 11th Provincial Social Science outstanding achievement award. Under the guidance and leadership of Professor Li Xiao, the chief expert, and the leaders of each sub-project, the members of the research group conducted in-depth and comprehensive research on the promotion of RMB internationalization under the 'The Belt and Road' initiative. This research group has achieved a high level of research in this field, and has an important influence in the research of this field at home and abroad.
