From March 31 to April 6 in 2019, Professor Li Xiao, dean of Economics School of Jilin University, is also the person in charge of year 2015’s major research project of NSSFC on promoting RMB internationalization in the strategy implementation of 'The Belt and Road'. Professor Li led some of the sub-project leaders, such as professor Ding Yibing, Professor Li Junjiu and associate professor Wang Hao, to attend the Sino-Italian cooperation in the promotion of 'The Belt and Road' seminar, which was held at the University of Verona Vicenza Campus in Italy. During this period, the delegation visited Bocconi University in Milan, University of Verona Vicenza Campus, University of Verona Verona Campus, Economics School of University of Florence and Rome and Embassy of China in Italy, to research on "The Belt and Road" related issues, and to fully discuss international cooperation between both sides in the future.
On the morning of April 1, the delegation visited Bocconi University in Milan and held talks with Ms. Gintoto, who in charge of student communication. Bocconi University, located in Milan, Italy, is the best business school in Italy and the world's top business school. For more than a century, there have been countless Italian politicians, business management academics and masters from here. For example, Mario Monti, former Prime Minister of Italy, Alberto Alesina, director of the Faculty of Economics of Harvard University, Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, father of the euro, Marco Patuano, President of Italian Telecom Group, etc. Bocconi's courses in economics, law and management earns a high reputation in Europe, and its main disciplines rank within the top 20 in the world in various authoritative rankings. Professor Li Xiao first briefly introduced the basic situation of Jilin University, Economics School of Jilin University and major project research, and indicated the purpose of the visit. Ms. Ginotto gave a detailed introduction of Bocconi University as well as the discipline development and international cooperation of Bocconi University. After that, they discussed the possibility of future cooperation, including the direction and specific content of future cooperation.

On the afternoon of April 1, the delegation and the scholars from University of Verona Vicenza Campus together held a high-level seminar on Sino-Italian cooperation under "The Belt and Road". A total of 5 scholars from both sides spoke at the seminar. Before the seminar, Professor Fiorentini, director of University of Verona Vicenza Campus, made a brief analysis of the economics and trade relations between Europe and China, Italy and China, as well as the main impact of the "The Belt and Road" initiative on Italy. After that, Professor Li Xiao gave a brief introduction of Jilin University, Economics School of Jilin University and major project of "The Belt and Road" and indicated the purpose of this research. Afterwards, Professor Ding Yibing, Professor Li Junjiu and associate professor Wang Hao made speeches on the commodity trade structure of countries along the "The Belt and Road", the political and economic implications of China-EU monetary and financial cooperation under "The Belt and Road", and the correlation structure between the Shanghai stock market and Shenzhen stock market in China. Silvia Malle, a former OECD expert on China issues, commented on the speeches made by three professors from Economics School of Jilin University.

On the morning of April 2, the delegation went to the Economics School, Verona campus, University of Verona for talks. Verona university is a national university which was incorporated in 1982. It is located in Verona City, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Italy. Located in the central area of northern Italian industrial belt, it is an important strategic and traffic fortress. Professor Cipriani, Dean of Economics School, University of Verona, introduced the main situation of the Economics School, the main courses, and the main research directions of teachers. The two sides expressed positive wishes for in-depth cooperation and communication in the future.

On the morning of April 3, the delegation went to the Economics School of Florence in Italy to have a discussion with Professor Bellandi, Dean of the Economics School, University of Florence, and the head of international cooperation department. The University of Florence, founded in 1321, is a brand-new university with an ancient history. In 1923, it was officially renamed the University of Florence. The school has 12 colleges and has about 60000 registered students. The University of Florence is one of the most important modern institutions of higher education in Italy and one of the four famous Italian economic universities. In 1999, the University of Florence was awarded the title of "outstanding research and teaching center in Europe" by the European Union, in recognition of its professional contributions in the teaching field in the process of European integration. Dean Bellandi attached great importance to the visit of Economics School, which he said was his first official activity since taking office. The two sides briefly introduced each other and held in-depth communication on future cooperation.

On the morning of April 5, the delegation paid a visit to the China Embassy in Italy to investigate the Sino-Italian cooperation in the promotion of "The Belt and Road" initiative. First of all, Professor Li Xiao introduced Jilin University, Economics School of Jilin University and the major project of "The Belt and Road". After that, the members of the delegation discussed the relevant issues of Italian politics, economy, cooperation, Chinese enterprises and the notice of the embassy.

On the afternoon of April 5, the delegation went to Economics School, University of Rome in Italy, and had a discussion with Professor D’Ascenzo, dean of the school, and other teachers. First of all, Professor Li Xiao and Professor D’Ascenzo made a basic introduction of the two schools and universities respectively, and fully discussed the academic communication, mutual visits and scientific research cooperation between teachers and students of both sides. Afterwards, the discussion focused on a full exchange of views and communication on the difficulties in China-Italy economic cooperation and other issues.

Through this investigation, the research group had an in-depth understanding of the RMB internationalization and Sino-Italian economic cooperation under the "The Belt and Road" initiative. More importantly, this also reveals many new problems and research perspectives, which provides a solid foundation for the in-depth study of this issue.
